Why We Vote the Way We Do and Why It Matters for Strategy

The other night, I was playing a card game with friends when a question came up: Do you make voting decisions based on your financial or moral positions?

It sparked a great conversation and reminded me of something we often see in the policy and nonprofit space. People do not always vote or act in ways that match their direct interests. Sometimes values outweigh economics. Sometimes messages get lost in translation. And sometimes people simply do not feel connected to the choices in front of them.

For organizations, this reality is both a challenge and an opportunity. It’s why clear communication, thoughtful strategy, and strong planning matter. At Chase Gen Strategy Consultants, we help nonprofits, coalitions, and grassroots leaders make sense of these dynamics by:

  • Developing strategic plans that connect vision to action.

  • Providing communications support that makes complex issues accessible.

  • Conducting policy research that grounds advocacy in evidence.

  • Supporting agenda setting to ensure organizations lead with clarity and focus.

  • Designing engagement strategies that build trust and connect directly to people’s lived experiences.

When organizations can understand why people act, vote, or respond the way they do, they can shape strategies that resonate not just with policies but with the people those policies are meant to serve. At Chase Gen, we believe it all matters: the strategy, the research, the communication, and the planning.

Our role is to help leaders bridge the gap between mission and message, so their work creates lasting impact.

If your organization is navigating these questions, we would love to connect.
